  2. Describe for Windows v2.0
  3. ------------------------------

  5. If you use 4DOS as your command shell and use the 4DOS DESCRIBE command 
  6. to describe your files then Describe for Windows is for you.
  7.  
  8. Describe provides a screen editing of file descriptions, plus file
  9. manipulation (copy, delete, move).
  10.  
  11. Describe is released as shareware, registration details are provided
  12. in the application itself.
  13.  
  14. No special installation is required, just run the app.
  15.  
  16. The comment edit window is subclassed so that the up, down, page up, and 
  17. page down keys allow you to scroll through the listbox.  To try this click
  18. in the description edit box and then hit down arrow.
  19.  
  20. A description character count is provided to the right of the description 
  21. to allow you to track the length of your descriptions.  Since 4DOS only 
  22. displays the first 40 characters of a description, you may want to limit
  23. your descriptions to 40.

  25. You will be prompted for permission to save the description file in all
  26. cases unless you explicitly ask for a save using the File/Save menu command.

  34. 80 character max description.  If you have descriptions longer that this, 
  35. don't allow Describe to save in the directory or your long descriptions 
  36. will be truncated.

  38. Directories with greater than 500 file may not be handled correctly.
  39.  
  40. I have made no attempt (yet) to make Describe bullet proof accessing the
  41. hidden 4DOS description file (descript.ion).  I don't know what will 
  42. happen if more that one instance of Describe is running and competing for
  43. the same description file.  Furthermore, a DOS window running a description
  44. editor may also cause unknown problems if competing with Describe.

  84. SOFTWARE LICENSE
  85.  
  86. Non-licensed users are granted a limited license to use Describe
  87. on a 30-day trial basis for the purpose of determining 
  88. whether Describe is suitable for their needs.  The use 
  89. of Describe, except for the initial 30-day trial, requires registration.
  90. The use of unlicensed copies of Describe, outside of the initial 
  91. 30-day trial, by any person, business, corporation, government agency
  92. or any other entity is strictly prohibited.

  94. A single user license permits a user to use Describe
  95. only on a single computer.  Licensed users may use the
  96. program on different computers, but may not use the program
  97. on more than one computer at the same time.
  98.  
  99. No one may modify or patch the Describe executable files 
  100. in any way, including but not limited to decompiling, 
  101. disassembling, or otherwise reverse engineering the program. 
  102.  
  103. A limited license is granted to copy and distribute Describe
  104. only for the trial use of others, subject to the above 
  105. limitations, and also the following: 
  106.  
  107.   1)    Describe and all of its release files must be copied
  108.         in unmodified form, complete with the file containing
  109.         this license information.
  110.  
  111.   2)    Describe may not be distributed in conjunction with
  112.         any other product without a specific license to do so
  113.         from the author.
  114.  
  115.   3)    No fee, charge, or other compensation may be requested or
  116.         accepted, except as authorized below:
  117.  
  118.         A) Operators of electronic bulletin board systems (sysops)
  119.            may make Describe available for downloading only as
  120.            long as the above conditions are met.  An overall or
  121.            time-dependent charge for the use of the bulletin board
  122.            system is permitted as long as there is not a specific
  123.            charge for the download of Describe.

  125.         B) Vendors of user-supported or shareware software approved by
  126.            the ASP may distribute Describe, subject to the
  127.            above conditions, without specific permission.  Non-
  128.            approved vendors may distribute Describe only after
  129.            obtaining written permission from the author.
  130.            Such permission is usually granted.  Please write for
  131.            details (enclose your catalog).

  133.         C) Non-profit user groups may distribute copies of the 
  134.            Describe diskette to their members, subject to 
  135.            the above conditions, without specific permission.  
  136.            Non-profit groups may collect a disk duplication fee 
  137.            not to exceed five dollars. 
  138.  
  139. LIMITED WARRANTY
  140.  
  141. The author warrants that all disks provided are
  142. free from defects in material and workmanship, assuming
  143. normal use, for a period of 90 days from the date of
  144. purchase.
  145.  
  146. The author warrants that the program will perform
  147. in substantial compliance with the documentation supplied
  148. with the software product.  If a significant defect in
  149. the product is found, the Purchaser may return the
  150. product for a refund.  In no event will such a refund
  151. exceed the purchase price of the product.

  153. EXCEPT AS PROVIDED ABOVE, DAVID CROSSMIER DISCLAIMS ALL
  154. WARRANTIES, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT
  155. LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND
  156. FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, WITH RESPECT TO THE
  157. PRODUCT.  SHOULD THE PROGRAM PROVE DEFECTIVE, THE
  158. PURCHASER ASSUMES THE RISK OF PAYING THE ENTIRE COST OF
  159. ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR, OR CORRECTION AND ANY
  160. INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES.  IN NO EVENT WILL
  161. DAVID CROSSMIER BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER
  162. (INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF
